Chinook Takes Fourth in Conrad Tournament
CONRAD, Mont, (NMB) - The Northern B and C Divisional Tournament was held in Conrad Saturday. Chinnok placed fourth in the tournament with 112 points. Chinook's top wrestlers were Ben Stroh, Jorrell Jones, Cord Andersen, Robbie Klingaman, and Jeff Qualls.

Chinook will take to the mat next at the all class State Wrestling Tournament taking place Friday and Saturday February 10 and 11 at the Metra in Billings. Listen for updates all day long Friday and Saturday, with special complete live coverage of the championship finals starting at 4pm, Saturday on 610 KOJM-AM.

Havre Boys Drop One, Shelby Picks Up First Win
SHELBY, Mont (NMB) Saturday the unbeaten Shelby Coyotes boys basketball team was hungry for their first win of the season as they got by the Havre Blue Ponies 43-40. Shelby had their biggest lead of 25-20 at the half, while the second half saw back-and-forth close scoring. Brandon Smith led the way for Havre with 19 points, with 16 in the second half.

The Havre boys see action next as they host Conrad Friday, February 10 at 7pm.

Havre Boys Win Over Lewistown
HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) - The Havre Blue Ponies boy basketball team picked up their fourth conference win Friday night, taking down Fergus high school, 36-33. The game was within one point going into the half. Havre dominated the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 11-3 and beginning the final quarter 27-18 and holding on for the win.
Thurman Holdsclaw and Frasier Hunt finished out the night with ten points a piece for Havre. Dylan Stensth had the game high with 12 points for Fergus.

Havre Grapplers Stands Strong After Divisionals
BELGRADE, Mont (NMB) Havre competed at the Central A Divisional Wrestling Tournament Saturday in Belgrade. Havre walked away with a strong finish in first place as a team with 276.5 points. Belgrade followed in second, while Fergus High took third. Havre had a total of nine champions, two second place, five third place and three fourth place finishers. Champions include Grayson Brenna (98), Dylan Stewart (105), Nate Kennelly (112), Thomas Gruber (130), Eli Hinebaugh (152), Kameron Pribyl (160), Grant Pattison (171), Casey Schaub (189), Tyler Adams (215). Second place finishers include Gilbert Bara (119) and Kolton Lodge (HVY)

Ice Hawks Fall In Missoula
MISSOULA, Mont. (NMB) - The Havre Ice Hawks were in Missoula Saturday. The hawks were unable to stop Missoula, and lost 5-2. Goalie Joey Devries stopped 51 shots for the night. Goals were scored by Nate Welch and Ethan Hettinger with assists by Chase Rolf, and Caleb McLain.

Havre plays Missoula again Sunday at 10:15 am.

Lady Ponies Trample Lady Coyotes Saturday
HAVRE, Mont (NMB) The Havre girls shot out to an early lead of 22-3 after the first quarter of play Saturday against Shelby. From there the cruise control was set for the 55-33 win against the Lady Coyotes. Chanal Standing Rock finished with 15 points while Brandy Lambourne and Jaclyn Evans each had 11 in the winning effort.

The Havre girls hit the road this Friday, February 10 for a game with the Cowgirls of Conrad listen to the game on 610 KOJM-AM at 7:30pm.

Lights And Argos Clash In A Thriller Saturday
HAVRE Mont. (NMB) Saturday night MSU-Northern traveled to the Electric City for another meeting with the University of Great Falls. The men's game turned into a real thriller. The Argos of U-G-F hit a three-point bomb with 1.5 seconds left of regulation play to get up in front of the Lights, 69-68. The Lights had one last shot at the bucket, it hit glass, it hit the rim but would not fall and the Argos sealed the win.

For the Lights, Shaun Tatarka led with 18 points, Devin Jackson added 17 more.

The MSU-Northern Skylights evened up their Frontier Conference record to 4-4 as they defeated the Lady Argos 59-55.

For the MSU-Northern Skylights Laramie Schwenke led with 17 points, Laci Keller and Nikki Tresch added13 points each and Jordan Bruursema had 11.

The Lights and Skylights hit the road on Friday as North meets West. The Skylights take on Montana Western at 6pm and the Lights begin at 8pm. Listen to all the action on KPQX-FM 92.5 and kpqx.com.

Big Sandy Swept Chinook Friday Night
CHINOOK, Mont. (NMB) It was a tough Friday night for the Chinook Sugarbeeters. The girls fell to the Pioneers of Big Sandy High School 40-37and the boys lost against Big Sandy 43-40.

In the early game the Beeters held tough with the District leading Pioneer boys, but ultimately the Chinook boys could not close the gap, Pioneers junior guard Trevor Lackner led all scores 17 points in that contest, Chinook forward Zach Molyneaux led Beeter scoring with 13 points.

Next the Chinook Lady Sugarbeeters closed a 13 point gap to three points late in the fourth quarter but ultimately could not prevail falling way to the Lady Pioneers in a stunner 40-37. Taryn Norby led Chinook scoring with 14 points.

The Chinook Girls are on the road again Saturday as they take on Hinsdale at 6pm.

Havre Ladies Triumphant In Lewistown
LEWISTOWN,Mont. (NMB) The Havre Lady Blue Ponies were on the road in Lewistown Friday night. The Havre girls basketball team had a strong showing in the first half against the Lady Golden Eagles. Leading the score going into the half 28-23. Lewistown battled back in the second half and even tied up the score in the final seconds, but they just couldn't keep the Lady Ponies down. At the final buzzer it was Havre victorious, 47-43.
Next up for the Havre girls, they will host Shelby on their home court Saturday evening.

Lights Football Sign 17 on Signing Day
HAVRE, Mont (NMB) The MSU-Northern Lights announced the signing of 17 student-athletes that will join the football program on Wednesday. Of the 17 Coach Mark Samson signed, 13 came from within the state, including a handful of area standouts.

Class C standout Leonard Pugsley, who played both ways for the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks, will join the Lights next fall. The 5'10 165lb athlete was recruited to play defensive back for Northern.

After a senior campaign that saw 36 receptions for 503 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense and 65 tackles and one interception on defense Fergus High's Carson Feller will continue his football career next year for the maroon and gold. The Golden Eagle also recruited to play defensive back.

From the Class B State Champion Fairfield, Northern brings in quarterback Trace Brady and 6'2 195lbs running back Chad Barrett. Both Eagles were named 1st team all conference and first team all state.

Rounding out the area stars joining the Lights, the Stanford High School Wolves send two of their best to the Hi-Line. Wide receiver Dylan Woodhall and linebacker Lander Ridgeway will make it to campus after earning first team all-conference and all-state honors.
